Harbour Village Marina, Hamstead NC

 Nice couple of days in Southport.  Lots of walking (saw an alligator on one walk, near golf course (see photo), good dinner at Rusty Hook Grill right at the marina.  Left at about 8:45, fought 2 knots of current, and 20 - 30 knots of wind on the bow up the Cape Fear River… still really not bad at all.  Once in the ICW, wind persisted, but no real impact.  Took our time so as to avoid arrival at low tide (shoaling in channel to marina).  The marina is closed on Wednesdays… but we arranged to tie up solo at the fuel dock for the night.  Very windy at the dock, no issues.  Soon after we docked, office person arrived (they knew our eta, and I expect monitor camera) to get paid.  Very nice, no issues.  Expect a walk, and quiet evening on board.  Here is today’s Track

FLORIDA… Fernandina Beach

 We left at 8 to time the tide at Jekyll Island Creek.  Smooth trip through the shallows.  Soon after we passed Jekyll Island, the ICW ventures almost out to the Atlantic, and then back in (see track)… There we hit very heavy fog… much less than 1/8 mile visibility in some areas (the foggy photo here shows when it had largely cleared… if you look very carefully… you can see another boat (Theodore) ahead of us.  Very thankful to have AIS and Radar so we can see other boats, and they can see us.  We passed the navy submarine base (look carefully you can see one at the dock with white tents on it).  There is also a metal frame structure… I think it is used to do something with magnetic signal of subs….  We arrived Fernandina Beach (60, breezy and still foggy) a little before 1:00.  Today is our last with Theodore and her crew (Richard & Francey)… we’ve really enjoyed cruising with them.  Tomorrow, they head on toward Sanford FL… and we stay ...

St Augustine to New Smyrna Beacn

We had a couple of great days in St Augustine, highlighted by best ever Italian dinner at “Saint”, tour of the St Augustine Distillary, excellent polish Kilbasi and perogi lunch at Gaufres And Goods. (Only open for lunch… fantastic).  Also a good dinner at Columbia (good, but not up to Saint standards).  Smooth travel day to New Smyrna Beach (a new port for Steadfast).  Not to mention a visit from Customs and Border Patrol (they do docking practice at St Augustine… I suspect because the fast currents make it challenging) Lots of porpoises, and sighting of the Good Year Blimp around Daytona (we expect preparing for big race on Sunday).   Here it today’s  Track

St Augustine!

We left a little before 9, plenty of water as we were just after high tide.  Slow/easy cruise to St Augustine.. we had favorable current almost all day… so low fuel burn.  We targeted arrival at 2:03 to coincide with slack current (can be 4 knots at St Augustine)… with favorable current, we arrive about an hour early… cruised on past the marina and made a loop back… arriving just before 2.  Here is today’s  Track
