Norfolk, VA Waterside Marina

 We had a quiet night at anchor, and got word in the morning that the North Landing Bridge was again operational.  Left at about 8:45.  Went through the 9:30 opening of the North Landing Bridge.  Next was the Centerville Turnpike Bridge… normal opens on the 1/2 hour and hour… but since it is Saturday, they opened on demand.  Great Bridge opened at 11, then directly into the lock.  Next hurdle was the “Norfolk Southern #7 Railroad Bridge”. It was closed when we arrived… bridge tender reported it was waiting for a train.  We waited well over 1/2 hour (seemed like almost an hour)… no train, then he opened… we could hear on the radio after we went through that he was closing again.  Seems like it shouldn’t be too hard to predict when a train is/isn’t coming.  Anyway.. we arrived at Waterside Marina in Norfolk… wind still in the mid 20s.     Seems like Porpoise Cove & sleeping in your own bed will be Sunday night. Appears you had a great trip with lots of memories, pictures and experiences to remember for many years to come.
    Hope our wakes cross again this Summer.

We’ve been making a list and checking it twice (actually many times) food, clothes, supplies, etc.  Maintenance is complete and all systems are a go!  In the off season (early winter) Steadfast has been freshly detailed, has new upholstery, a new table, and new carpet… she’s looking great!  Plan is to leave at 1st light on Wednesday January 8.  This morning, it is 23 degrees in Dville, skim ice on the cove… depending on the weather between now and Wednesday… we might need an ice breaker!

On to Morehead City

 We left at 6:45, much nicer day than Saturday (glad we stayed put on Saturday).  Smooth travels, even saw our first Porpoises of the trip…expect more to come.  The wind built through the day to about 20kts, but we were in well protected waters, and very comfortable.  Arrived Morehead City Yacht Basin at 3:00.  Laundry, and dinner on the boat.  Here is our track from today:   Track

Southport, NC… last stop in NC

 Nice stay in Wrightsville Beach where we saw our 1st Spanish Moss of the trip… in spite of the cold temps… we ARE working our way SOUTH!  Today was a nice short run… left at 10 after a nice walk and a good bagel/coffee stop.  We cruised slow (efficient) and arrived at 1:30.  This is our 1st Safe Harbor marina of the trip (means FREE since we are “members”).  We’re staying here 2 nights.  Leigh will be joing us this evening, and staying through sometime on Monday… so she’ll travel with us to Myrtle Beach, and maybe even Georgetown.  Here it today’s  Track
