More Key West

 Nice several days in Key West….  Key West Conch Train Tour… not so good, next time try Trolly tour, Restaurants:  Azur, great; Mangia Mangia, fair, Cocktails: Rooster, great; Bfast: Pepe’s Cafe, good; Harpoon Harry’s, good.  Took a nice dingy Tour, including Key West City Marina at Garrison Bight (glad we didn’t choose that… remote and nothing special.  Took a free shuttle over to Perry Hotel & Marina where friends of a friend were staying.  VERY nice resort hotel & Marina… on Stock Island, free hourly shuttle to Key West… 3 restaurants onsite, 2 heated pools, nice lounges etc. Would consider it if staying for a longer period in the future.  

Today (Friday) Gwen flys back to PA (will be enjoying some time with grandkids while “mom & dad” have a get away… and tomorrow, Jim & Denton begin the journey north.  When we get to Daytona, Denton will disembark, and Gwen will rejoin (along with brother & sister-in-law Dan & Mindy) who will be with us for about a week.

Fort Pierce

 Nice evening on board at Sailfish Marina in Stuart.  Very leisurely morning… departed around 10:45 after a nice morning walk through the Banyan Tree Tunnel!  Short run, barely 3 hours at slower than normal cruise (plus we had some tide/current push).  Arrived Safe Harbor Harbortown (Fort Pierce FL) at about 1:45.  First stop was fuel & pumpout dock.  Pumpout went smoothly (no issues), and very pleased with fuel… our last fuel was back at this same marina on 2/15, we took on 196 gallons, having run 83.8 hours, or 2.3 gallons/hr average (across Lake Okechoobee, down the gulf coast to Key West and back up the Atlantic coast to Fort Pierce.  Here it today’s  Track

Phase 2: Myrtle Beach to Georgetown

 After a few weeks away from the boat for great Christmas celebrations with Family, we returned to the boat on New Years Eve.  Gwen battling a sinus infection, on 2nd round of antibiotics, and Jim close behind leading to an urgent care visit on New Years Day… We’re optimistic that we’ll soon be 100%, but in any case, great to be back on the boat, and enjoy the company of Theodore’s crew as well.  We left just after 8 today for Georgetown.  Nice run, and in particular the run down the Waccamaw river is one of the most picturesque of the whole trip!  We stopped for fuel at Waccawachi Marina (say that 3 times fast)… probably the best diesel prices on the east coast (2.959).  We took on just over 200 gallons… not bad since our last fueling was in Hampton on the way north last April.  Arrived Georgetown before 2:30, looking forward to a good dinner in town with Richard & Francey.  Here is today’s  Track .

South to Naples

 We left about 9:45 after a 4 mile walk.  Very nice morning in Sanibel (getting spoiled with fresh blueberry muffins delivered to the boat every morning).  In spite of active dredging… we touched bottom on the way out of the marina, and had to take a second run at the inlet… well to the left of center.  Beautiful day on the gulf!  Lots of dolphins swimming along with us.  The entrance to Naples is full of beautiful homes… I think we’re going to get a different view of Naples than we’ve gotten from brief visits by car in the past.  Dinner plans this evening with friends from our Croatia bike tour.  Here is today’s  Track .  Note, alligator pictures are from yesterday’s 15mile bike ride around Sanibel
