Still in Great Bridge

Well... we're still in Great Bridge VA.  Quite a wind and rain storm came through yesterday, with the worst after dark from about 7 - 11, very heavy rain and wind, not sure, but I'd guess gusts were in the 50s (kts, 1.15 mph).  All is well with us, lots of extra dock lines and fenders.  We had planned to get underway today headed to  Coinjock, NC, but... there are 3 draw bridges between here and there. One reported needing 2hr advance notice to open (instead of every 30 minutes), and the other two are "stuck" in the closed position due to high winds and high water.  By mid day... 2 are back to normal operation, but the 3rd remains closed.  I spoke with the bridge tender... when asked if the bridge would open today, the best he could say was "hopefully".  So, we're here for a 3rd night.  There is a 48hr maximum at this FREE dock... but under the circumstances, I don't think anyone is going to kick us out (no one new can get here either as the bridges we went through to get here from the north as closed as well).  So... relaxing morning, 3.5 mile walk.  Got a call from marina in Oriental… folks aren’t leaving… so even through we made a reservation… there’s no room at the in.  Working on updating the plan.

Afternoon update says all bridges are open, so we’re a go for departure at 8:00 AM (1st bridge, 30 minutes away doesn’t open between 6:30 & 8:30.

    1. Cooper has been on a boat since he was a young pup. Amazingly he holds his bladder up to 10-12 hours. A typical day starts w a 2 mile walk for Cooper and Gwen to get the wiggles out for the day and to keep consistent w land life. Yes, Coop get’s excited when he hear the motor slowing down to dock. Anyone that knows Cooper knows he gets VERY excited! We found a solution… in a hollow raw hide bone freeze peanut butter w a hidden treat. This occupies Coop while docking. While Jim adjust the lines after docking, Cooper and Gwen are off for another walk.
