Belhaven Bound
Great day today! Left Coinjock just before sunrise, 36 deg and foggy. The fog lifted pretty quickly and provide a spectacular sunrise.
Soon we saw what we thought was a small island. Even with binoculars… it was an island. Closer examination reveals it was a boat full of duck hunters. Black boat, completely covered in pine branches. Based on the camo effort… they deserve a good duck dinner. (It’s hard to see but here is a picture.)
Smooth trip down the North River, and the Albemarle Sound (known for the potential to be rough) was the smoothest we've ever seen it. Very efficient opening of the Alligator River Bridge. The Alligator river was smooth as was the Alligator River/Pungo River Canal (dug in 1928 I think). Then down the Pungo River to Belhaven where we met Dave & Tina (Jim's college room mate and wife). Dinner at "The Tavern at Jack's Neck"... good pizza followed by an dish of ice cream at "Cloud 9 Creamery". Plan is to stay put tomorrow (windy and gives us time for more visiting and exploring Belhaven.
A few people have asked how Cooper is handling the trip… see below… he’s doing great.
Note: Dinner at Coinjock last night was a 6.5 out of 10... still good, but not photo worthy.
So great day, traveling from sun up to just before sun down. Very peaceful day... in 1- hours underway, we saw 2 other pleasure boats, 1 fishing boat, and the duck hunters.
